This study analyzes the clinical outcomes of patients who have a superior capsular reconstruction (SCR) to treat a massive, irreparable tear of the rotator cuff. For these massive tears, the rotator cuff muscle (supraspinatus) can retract towards the midline. This retraction results in a loss of the superior restraint of the humerus. With a high-riding humeral head, patients can experience tremendous pain, loss of function, and potentially pseudoparalysis. The SCR was developed as a way to preserve the shoulder and forestall a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.
